German Congress for Geography

25.09. – 30.09.2019 at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Germany

The German Society of Geography and the Geographical Institute of the CAU Kiel invite you to the German Congress of Geography 2019 in Kiel.

Changes and new beginnings – Geography of the future: 50 years after the eventful „Geographer’s Day 1969“ in Kiel we want to discuss how geography as a discipline has changed.

Which changes took place, which new perspectives were adopted, and which new geographies emerged? At the 2019 congress in Kiel, we would like to put today’s geography up for debate and seek ways into the future, re-contour, and strengthen intradisciplinary topics, networks and fields of action. We also seek to meet professional interdisciplinary challenges while actively positioning our subject both politically and strategically.

It is our aim to equally address all dimensions of geographical work – scientific research, university teaching, social-activist, applied professional and school practice, and to motivate all colleagues in geography to commit themselves to the further development of the subject. We want to provide the framework and opportunity for such a development. It is our hope that the guiding themes as well as the scope for new, critical, and creative ideas will allow us to assess possible geographical futures. We would be delighted if you would take advantage of these opportunities.

„That’s up to Kiel“ – we invite you to the German Congress for Geography 2019!
